Gold Rush

A check came in the mail addressed to her. It is payment for all the gold jewelry she cashed in recently, including both of our wedding bands.

I wrote a lot of stuff about the meaning of this, but I think I will try to simplify it all.

Melting it all for cash kind of demonstrates the zero-value of the memory of the relationship for her. The only value is the check from the jeweler. It really was all about money.

Sometime I am going to ask her for my wedding band back, and when she balks I will give her the check and suggest she put it in our daughter's college fund. But I am sure it will be spent elsewhere--probably on alcohol.
