Previously on The Ruiner:
Our hero was nervously replying to a message from Lisa, who noticed the Ruiner's profile online, as they say. They had exchanged a few emails without saying much.
And then, without really thinking it through, he offered to meet Lisa for coffee, almost as an aside, after telling her his best divorce-hell stories. It seemed to be a simple offer with no real consequence. Or was it?
Afterward our hero thought that perhaps he was not fully prepared for Coffee, or the commitment that comes from sharing coffee. It is, after all, a slippery slope that leads to marriage. He has little power to escape this kind of tractor beam. It happened before. It could happen again.
He doesn't even like coffee!
Lisa replied. Should our hero open the message that sits in his email waiting room? Should he expose himself to the adventure of online dating?? The message sits there patiently.
He clicks on the message.
Lisa continues the polite conversation and then explains that she does not care for coffee. But she does enjoy Diet Coke.
The Ruiner reads this and smiles knowingly.

to be continued...
